I’m a big believer that a freelance career gives you true freedom and agency over your life. More time to balance life and work, flexibility to work around a family or hobbies, unlimited earning potential and the ability to choose what you work on.

But is it always easy to build - and maintain - a freelance career? The answer is no.

From finding your first clients, to keeping clients, maintaining a pipeline and knowing how to make money without burning out - there’s a ton to work out and refine. All while trying to work in your business and keep the wheels turning.

I’ve spent seven years freelancing, and now run a freelance business that I love. It only requires 3 days per week to run (because that’s what works around my young family) and it still has the ability to create £100k per year turnover (with few overheads because profit is everything).

All of this wasn’t an accident.

My freelance career has been designed with intention, I’ve tested multiple ways of working and offerings with clients and I’ve rebuilt the business from the ground up twice to better suit my lifestyle.

In Thriving Freelancer I’ve designed a four-week programme to help you unlock the freelance career that, like me, you’ve spent the last few years building up to.

The Programme

Thriving Freelancer is a four-week programme that gives you the knowledge and insight into how to build a thriving freelance career.

I’ll share templates, examples and strategic advice that will help you learn how to design your freelance business, effectively find clients, price and package your services and maintain day-to-day habits that will set you up for long-term success as a thriving freelancer.

By joining this programme you’ll learn:

  • How to find clients and maintain a pipeline to keep the work coming in

  • How to price and package your services using a mix of day-rate pricing, project pricing, value-based pricing and examples of what this might look like in terms of rates

  • Client management processes - from initial enquiry, to booked project

  • How to choose profitable services to offer and package these up in a compelling way

  • What a compelling client proposal looks like with four templates of real client proposals I use, to learn from

  • Different freelance business models that show you how to earn more over time, without working more

  • How to build a long-term vision for your freelancing (and actually get there)

  • Tips to setup your day, week and year so that you avoid burnout and maintain a manageable workflow

  • Payment processes - example invoicing templates, freelance contracts and how to ensure clients pay you on time, every time

  • How to keep evolving your business and maintaining growth

  • Strategies to use during challenging times (recessions, quiet periods, illness etc.)

When does the course begin?

  • The next cohort of Thriving Freelancer will begin on 15th April 2024 and run for four weeks. The dates of the live sessions will be held on 18th April, 25th April, 2nd May and 9th May.

Programme Syllabus:

WEEK 1 - HOW TO FIND CLIENTS

This week is all about finding clients for your freelance business and what to do when you find them! You’ll learn of six channels which you can use to find clients, tips on client management processes, examples of cold outreach emails, how to cope when projects don't go well and much more.

WEEK 2 - HOW TO PRICE AND PACKAGE YOUR SERVICES

In week two you’ll discover how to convert what you do into packages that suit you, and your clients. Including pros and cons of different models such as retainer packages, project-based packages and how to effectively price your work by time spent vs value. Plus a breakdown of what creates a compelling client proposal. You’ll also learn different ways to build a high-turnover business as a company of one, and how to get clients to pay you on time, every time.

WEEK 3 - CREATING A LASTING FREELANCE BUSINESS

Week three will inspire and guide you on how to create a long-term vision and plan for your freelance business. Looking at how you decide when (or if) to scale, how to grow if you don’t want to hire a team and how to extend your income without extending your working hours. Plus tips on what to do in challenging times (recessions, quiet periods), how to take holiday/maternity/paternity leave and how to work on, not in, your business.

WEEK 4 - Q&A

The final week includes a live Q&A where you can send in all, and any, questions you have about freelancing for me to answer with you.

FAQs

Who is this programme for?

Thriving freelancer is for you if:

  • You are currently a freelancer who feels unsupported and confused about how to make the most of your business OR you’re an aspiring freelancer who wants to make the jump to being freelance during the next 6-12 months

  • Your current (or future) freelance business is service-based (coach, marketer, designer, web developer, virtual assistant etc. - basically anything that’s not selling physical products)

When does the course begin?

The next cohort of Thriving Freelancer will begin on 15th April 2024 and run for four weeks. The dates of the live sessions will be held on 18th April, 25th April, 2nd May and 9th May.

Can I join if I’m not freelancing yet?

Absolutely, around 50% of each programme is usually made of those who want to freelance but haven’t yet made the jump. If freelancing is a serious goal then this programme will be invaluable in helping you set up for success. Plus, it’ll provide you ideas and structure for starting to find your first freelance clients when you are ready to make the jump.

What if I can’t attend the live calls?

All calls will be recorded and shared within 24 hours so you can watch (and rewatch!) at any time. If you can join live I do recommend this as it provides a chance for you to ask your questions live, plus be in the energy of myself and the other thriving freelancers.

What’s the time commitment?

You’ll need to be able to commit two hours per week for the four-week period, although hopefully you’ll want to spend even longer implementing what you’ve learned. You’ll have forever-access to the calls and programme materials so you can return back to these at any time if you want to do the implementation at a later date.

Where will the live calls take place?

This will be confirmed for your individual cohort but the timing is usually every Thursday at 12pm.
